New Iberia toppled the Tors by a score of 13-6 -- the Tors have lost to the Jackets only 3 times during the series dating back to 1953. This defeat snapped a 6 game winning streak for the Tors. Sulphur entered the game averaging 33 points an outing, but had little luck moving the ball in the Jacket fumble at the New Iberia 27. Duplichan ripped off a 12 yard run, and then a 15 yarder for the TD.
The Tors managed 214 yards on offense, their worst out-put of the year. Most of the yardage came in a final drive by the Tors that saw them move from their own 32 to just within inches of the Jacket goal line, only to be denied a victory. Sulphur took over when they held the Jackets on a fourth-and-five try. Two plays later, Saucier lifted a high, long pass downfield that end Dough Abel snared out of the rain at the Jacket 17 for a 40-yard gain. Lee Duplichan, Tor Workhorse, carried the ball 4 yards; then with only 39 seconds left in the game, the Tors came back for 3 quick plays with no huddle that netted only inches; facing a 4th down, the Tors tried a quick over-the-middle pass that went incomplete and the game ended with the Tors on the short end of the score -- Tors 6, Jackets 13.

Quarterback Lester Saucier threw 4 touchdown passes as the Tors wiped out the Wildcats 38 to 15. Two TD passes went to Doug Abel, one to Lee Duplichan, and one to Randy McFarlain. Saucier completed 9 of 22 passes for 181 yards. The Sulphur Defense racked up the Wildcat runners all night and picked off 4 passes -- Dub Henning captured 3 of the wayward passes and Keith Smith got the other interception.

The Sulphur-Opelousas fracas was a battle between the right arm of Opelousas' Rogers and the fleet feet of the Tors' Lee Duplichan. With the Tors' heralded passing attack held to a season low of 47 yards, the offensive burden fell on Duplichan and he responded with 166 yards on 25 assignments as the Tors came up with their best running performance of the year -- 237 yards. Duplichan got the Tors off to a flying start when he took the opening kickoff back 72 yards to the Opelousas 18 before being nailed from behind. Three plays found Sulphur only one yard closer to pay dirt, but on a fourth-down play the Tigers were guilty of pass interference that gave the Tors a first-and-goal situation at the 9. Three plays later, Saucier scored on a keeper from a yard out; Keith Smith booted the PAT. This was the only Tor score until the final quarter when Sulphur, pushed to only inches from its goal line by an Opelousas punt, went 99 yards in 8 plays to score. Saucier got the TD on a 9-yard run off tackle, shaking off two Tigers to reach pay dirt. He then got two points on the PAT try by sneaking under the grasp of a Tiger at the goal line. The big play in the Tors' drive was a 44-yard bomb from Saucier to end Donald Ellender on a third-and-seven situation.
Jeff Free intercepted a pass and returned it nine yards to the Tors'44, Sulphur moved to Opelousas 35 where it faced a fourth and 13. The Tors gambled and it paid off as Duplichan raced 30 yards to the five on a draw play. With 1:33 remaining, Duplichan went off tackle from 2 yards out to score. That put Sulphur ahead 21-12; Opelousas came back to get another touchdown, but the Tors captured its seventh victory in eight games with a 21-18 final score.

Friday the 13th proved to be lucky for the Golden Tors as they blanked LaGrange 25-0 in the mud at Gator Stadium, and thus sewed up the District 3-AAAA Championship! LaGrange crossed mid-field only twice during the game with the deepest penetration to the Tor 38, Sulphur wasted little time showing who was boss. The Tors got the opening kickoff when the Gators chose to take a strong north wind and covered 71 yards in only 9 plays to score getting all the yardage on the ground. Quarterback Saucier got the touchdown on a 17-yard sweep to the right and Keith Smith Booted the PAT. The Tors took over on their own 34 following a Gator punt and moved the required 66 yards in 10 plays to score again. Halfback Duplichan got the TD on a one-yard jump off tackle. The big play of this drive was a 40 yard screen pass from Saucier to Jeff Free. The third Tor TD took little work. The Tors got the ball at the LaGrange 32 when Clyde Richard pounced on a fumble. 6 plays later, Duplichan scored on a six-yard run. Duplichan rushed for 105 yards on 19 assignments; Saucier rushed 58 yards on 7 carries and completed 6 of 14 passes for 94 yards. Free had 41 yards on 13 trips. As usual, the entire defense was right in there doing a fine job of containing the Gators.
During the last part of the game, the Tor bench was emptied as the Future Tor Teams were given some experience.
