  Our Adoptees, or Wards:

Some of our adoptees, or wards, come to us having been orphaned, some have been rescued from people who tried to make pets of them, and most of them are injured. Our sole purpose is to help them mend and get strong enough to be released back into the wild, where they belong. It is their natural environment, and all healthy wild born creatures should be allowed to stay wild and free.

Raptors: "Birds of Prey" - Most baby raptors come in having fallen from the nest. They were either found after a storm, or they fell out because curiosity got them too close to the edge. The grown Hawks and Owls that are brought to us have been shot or hit by a car. Barn Owl Chicks

Water Fowl: Pelican babies will try to test their wings or follow a parent. They are not strong enough to fly far, so they will glide on the wind and lose their bearing. They will land and walk around looking for something familiar. Grown Pelicans come to us with fish hooks and line or plastic wrapped around them. The geese that are brought to us usually have been shot.

MAMMALS:
Many baby deer (fawns) are found alone in the woods and picked up by well meaning hikers. Others have often been injured by bush-hogs or cars. Federal Agents bring us some that they have confiscated from poachers. Many of the Baby Raccoons were found in people's attics.

HECKHAVEN also takes in EXOTICS: Ferrets, Sugar Gliders, Rabbits, PotBelly Pigs, Parrots, etc. which people buy and then "get tired of them." PLEASE, PLEASE, read, talk to owners, learn about the animals, and consider your lifestyle and time available before you take on the responsibilities of an Exotic Pet.
